Samuel Backer is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Center for Digital Humanities at Johns Hopkins University, where he completed a PhD in History in 2022. His work explores the origins of the American entertainment industry in the years prior to mechanically reproduced performance. At the Center for Digital Humanities, he is working to expand this research through the use of computational tools to analyze large sets of historical data about American society.
